It's been awhile since I last did an update here on what's been going on in our lives. I feel like so much has changed this summer and I've barely written about any of it. I'm hoping that I will get back into a good routine of writing once the school year gets started. So forgive me if this post gets a little long winded. I have so much that I want to talk about.
I mentioned briefly that Hannah was starting school this week. Monday was her first day and she was so excited. I snapped the above picture during breakfast Monday morning. Wytmer and I got to go together to drop her off that first morning and she handled it well. There was a moment when she realized that we were leaving her there that her eyes filled with tears, but her teacher said she was happy for the rest of the day. When I picked her up that afternoon she jumped into my arms, and the teacher was full of praise on how well she did for her first day of school. Wednesday afternoon the owner mentioned that they wanted to move Hannah up into the three year old room because she's more mature and advanced than her peers in the room she's in now. I think a lot of it is about balancing numbers, but I was so proud that they think she's capable of this so soon after starting. The three year old room is a fully equipped Montessori classroom that focuses on all aspects of the curriculum, which is appealing to me. I agreed to let her try it out when they assured me that if she wasn't happy and doing well she could go back to her old class. Everything went really well, however she did get a little cold that kept her home for Thursday and Friday. Luckily she's doing better now. She's still quite clingy and grumpy, but I'm sure she will be back to her happy self in no time. I can't blame her though, she's had a lot of changes to deal with.
In other news, Wytmer has started his new job and is loving it. He's a vendor for a distributing company that works with Budweiser. Basically he's in charge or ordering and merchandising Budweiser products in a region of stores. His benefits are phenomenal and his schedule/pay is far better than his last job. The company does a lot of great events and opportunities for it's employees. This weekend they had a company picnic at a water park in Galveston. Wytmer and I got to get away and be kids for the day. And since his company works for Budweiser we got a few drinks on the house. Soon they will be having a golf tournament that Wytmer wants to bring my dad to, and they offer paid brewery tours to their employees throughout the year. Pretty fantastic, if you ask me. And best of all, Wytmer says that he has a lot of opportunity for growth in this company, which is really exciting for us.Wytmer has sacrificed a lot for this family and didn't get to finish school when Hannah was born. It makes me so happy to know that he's able to do something that he enjoys that will make him feel proud.
And as for the mama? Well, I've been keeping busy as well. I've gone back to work and said goodbye to our lazy and amazing family summer. We had so much fun together and it was great for our family to just be together for weeks on end. Now I'm getting ready for another exciting year of school. I'm teaching ninth grade English again, but now I'll be adding on two sections of resource, or fundamental English. This will be my fourth year teaching, and I feel like I'm in a good place in my career. I enjoy the challenge and excitement of teaching 14 year olds (crazy, yes) and I really feel a calling to work with special education kids. It's never easy, but I feel like I am where I should be.
Whew, did you make it through all of that? I'll do my best to post more regularly so these word vomit posts won't be necessary. Our little family still has a lot of adventures coming our way (like oh yeah, a wedding!) and I'm excited to share it all here.
XOXO
